The Little Yarn Store's
Sustainability Initiatives
Sustainable Sourcing
The Little Yarn Store is focused on sustainable and ethical sourcing of our yarn, tools, notions, and publications. This means sourcing yarns that are made from natural fibres. We also carry a small selection of yarns with recycled or up-cycled synthetics. We are also focused on bringing in yarns that have the following qualities:
- Biodegradable
- Cruelty-Free
- Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)
- Made in Australia and New Zealand
- Non-Mulesed Wool
- Oeko-Tex Certified
- REACH Compliant
- Women-Owned
- Recycled Claim Standard (RCS)
Planet: Carbon-Neutral Shipping
We use Shopify's Planet to make all of our shipments carbon-neutral.
Every time an order is processed and shipped, a small contribution is made to purchase carbon removal credits from companies that are a part of the Shopify Sustainability Fund, creating technologies and solutions that pull carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and store it long term.Â
Our Packaging
The packing supplies we use inside our Australia Post satchels and boxes are selected for environmental sustainability. Here are some of the products we use:
Mental Health
We support Beyond Blue through donations raised at our in-store events. To date we have raised $365 for Beyond Blue.
For more than 20 years, people in Australia have placed their trust in Beyond Blue as a reliable source of mental health information, support, and hope.
Beyond Blue is one of Australia’s most well-known, trusted, and visited mental health organisation.
Birdlife Australia
$1.00 from each hank of Circus Tonic Handmade will be donated to BirdLife Australia's vital bird and habitat conservation programs. To date we have raised $164.05 for Birdlife Australia.
Volunteering with Brisbane South State Secondary College
Our team at The Little Yarn Store volunteers with the Crochet Club at the Brisbane South State Secondary College to teach the next generation of crocheters.
Acknowledgement of Country
The Little Yarn Store acknowledges the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and recognises the continuing connection to lands, waters and communities.
We pay our respects to First Nations individuals and communities — past, present and emerging — and thank them for being integral to the fibre arts.
Brisbane and its greater region are located on the custodial homelands of the Yaggera, Turrabul, Yuggarrapul, Jinabara, Quandamooka and neighbouring nations.
